Explained

  1. What is the EGAMES?

A brand-new global esports tournament will see students represent their schools per country, earn prizes for their schools, and enhance young people’s lives through education and esports.

  2. Who is it for?

The new, first-of-its-kind global esports competition designed exclusively for K-12 students has been created by GEMS Education, one of the largest Kindergarten to Grade 12 (Year 13) private education providers in the world, and the British Esports Federation. This new initiative is supported by national esports federations, educational institutions, and the Commonwealth Youth Programme.

  3. What games will be played?

Students from around the world will have the chance to compete for the title of champion and bring pride to their schools and countries. The inaugural EGAMES will consist of two esports titles (Rocket League and eFootball), and a Minecraft tournament. EGAMES 27 will be for those studying in the 2026/27 academic year. Qualifiers in each participating country will lead to a global finals event, the first of which will take place at the SRI GEMS school in Dubai in 2027.

  4. What is the Purpose?

EGAMES will showcase individual and team esports titles, providing students with the opportunity to compete on behalf of their schools on a global stage. The competition aims to foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and strategic thinking while promoting a healthy, competitive environment for the next generation of esports athletes.

  5. Is it Educational ?

EGAMES will serve as a pathway for student competitors, linking local and national tournaments to global recognition and career opportunities in the esports industry and other sectors. It will act as an international cultural and educational exchange, and promote skills development.

The ETeams

“Esports engages young people across the Commonwealth, and whilst it’s an entertaining spectacle, it is also an opportunity for participants to engage in team competition and develop new digital skills. Commonwealth Youth ministers, in their last meeting, recognised the significant opportunities that esports offers in driving youth engagement, employment, andfostering innovation in technology.”

Layne Robinson

Former Head of Social Policy at The Commonwealth
